Bead Mill

Information about a bead mill and our service

About

Our service

We are a mediator for machines used in the paint and chemical industry. There are many machines (production machines e.g. filling- dispensing machines, dissolvers etc.) involved in the production process of paint and chemicals. Every machine is crucial and important in this process.

Send us your enquiry for the machine you are looking for. As soon as we receive your enquiry, we will forward you an appropriate questionnaire in order the get all specific requirements.

After you returned the filled-out questionnaire to us, we will forward it to different eligible suppliers. They in turn will prepare a quotation that exactly match the machine you have requested. You can compare all quotations and can decide to proceed with one of the suppliers.

The bead mill is used for various applications, e.g. grinding relatively large and small (size of sub-micron) materials e.g. resins, pigment, metal, additives etc. The beads are mixed in a (cylindrical) vessel to disperse or grind the material in a paste.

There are two types of bead mills, the vertical and horizontal. In processing performance there is no big difference between the two types. In terms of maintenance and operability, the horizontal type has the following differences compare to the vertical mill:

  • Parts replacement is relatively more easy
  • Need less start-up power
  • More installation space is needed
  • Recovery of paste and bead discharging require more time and work

The bead size is important for material milling and affects the final size of the particles. Small beads (0.3 mm or finer) are applied to grinding submicron. Larger beads (0.5 mm or larger) are grinding micron sizes into submicron.  To grind hard or large raw materials, high impact/ intensity energy is needed. Intensity of energy is determined by the speed and mass of beads. High speed is needed to grind large and hard material into smaller particles.

As explained the bead size is important to the purpose of processing. Important is to select the best method of bead separation, which depends on the bead size. Methods are grouped in: Slit separator (bead size 0.3 mm or larger), Screen separator (bead size 0.1 mm or bigger) or centrifugal separator.

Typically there is an information report provided by the chemical or paint producer. This document contains information about the product chemical profile e.g. health effects of exposure or other potentially dangerous substances and about the safe working procedures when handling the products. This report is a MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) and important information for the Bead Mill manufacturer. Even though a MSDS report is available, the buyer of a Bead Mill has to consider about many more specifications, such as:

  • Type of product and characteristics (e.g. abrasive, foaming, adhesive etc.)
  • Machine dimensions
  • Electrical equipment
  • Control panel
  • Optional components (e.g. sample valve, injection pipe for solvent, PT 100 etc.)
  • Explosion proof (Zone/ IP)
  • Available facilities
